Daniel Rossi Daniel Rossi

Lawyer-trained senior executive. Twenty years at the intersection of industrial decarbonization, regulatory governance, sustainable finance, and infrastructure diplomacy.

I have spent two decades inside energy utilities, global industrial logistics, and international organizations — interfacing with multilateral development institutions and building the governance structures, financial instruments, and stakeholder architectures that make large-scale sustainability operational. I work at the point where regulation, capital allocation, and industrial reality come together.

Based in Belgium. Operating in Spanish, Italian, English, and French.

Four Operating Domains

I convert institutional and regulatory complexity into structures that protect capital, secure operational continuity, and survive external audit.

01

Regulatory Governance
& Law

I design compliance architectures for multinational groups where sustainability reporting carries the same legal exposure as financial disclosure. My work covers CSRD, EU Taxonomy alignment, TCFD, and "3 Lines of Defense" data governance models built for external assurance.

02

Industrial
Decarbonization

I build decarbonization strategies grounded in physical asset optimization — not theoretical roadmaps. That includes BESS and on-site generation architectures, fleet emission governance frameworks, Scope 3 value chain programs negotiated directly with global logistics carriers, and carbon reporting benchmarking across major cloud and ICT providers.

03

Sustainable Finance
& Carbon Markets

I managed carbon asset portfolios exceeding €100 million through funds structured by the World Bank and IFC, and built the risk frameworks required to hedge those positions within trading and portfolio management operations. I co-authored the sustainability criteria behind a major European Green Bond issuance.

04

Non-Technical Risk &
Infrastructure Diplomacy

I secured the "Social License to Operate" for contested infrastructure — from coal plant decommissioning to nuclear development to renewable energy in volatile geographies. I have been deployed across Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania to mediate stakeholder opposition and manage the social dimensions of the energy transition.

How I Operate

Data & Audit Rigor

I treat sustainability data with the same discipline as financial data. I build automated data pipelines, enforce strict data hierarchies that prioritize physical measurement over financial proxies, and design staging protocols for privacy, validation, and standardization. If it cannot survive an external auditor, it does not enter the system.

Commercial Traction

Sustainability without a commercial logic is a cost center. I integrate ESG into sales processes, supply chain negotiations, and M&A due diligence — turning compliance obligations into competitive positioning and revenue protection.

Digital Capability

I select and deploy carbon accounting platforms, apply AI and large language models to strategic analysis and legacy data remediation, and build the digital pipelines that connect operational data to audit-grade reporting frameworks.

Selected Mandates

Translating regulatory pressure and market volatility into operational architecture. The following represents recent execution across heavy industry and global logistics.

01

Data Architecture &
Audit Readiness

Context: €1.7bn Global Industrial Wholesaler

I directed the digital transformation of the non-financial reporting function to secure CSRD compliance across more than 50 legal entities. Moving away from manual data extraction, I oversaw the implementation of enterprise carbon accounting software integrated with scheduled BigQuery protocols to extract operational metrics directly from legacy ERP systems. I architected a strict "6-Step Data Hierarchy" prioritizing physical activity data over financial proxies to eliminate CapEx/OpEx double-counting. This automated pipeline drastically reduced compliance auditing hours and secured pre-assurance verification from KPMG for Scopes 1, 2, and 3 value chain emissions.

02

Infrastructure Diplomacy
& Social License

Context: Global Energy Utility

Tasked with managing the social dimensions of the energy transition, I deployed to the front lines of 1,600MW coal-fired power plant decommissionings in Chile and Australia. I managed the labor and social transitions, successfully securing the social license required for responsible asset retirement. At the corporate level, I authored Group-wide Social Impact Assessment (SIA) guidelines and designed the CSR Investment Scoring Matrix used by the executive committee to evaluate all global capital allocations. In the field, I mediated directly with local stakeholders to resolve localized opposition threatening project delivery schedules in the UAE, Indonesia, South Africa, and Brazil.

03

Sustainable Finance
& Risk Hedging

Context: Global Energy Utility / Multilateral Finance

I managed the origination of carbon credits through pioneering multilateral instruments, overseeing a total capital commitment exceeding €100 million. I negotiated terms of participation across the Prototype Carbon Fund (PCF), the Community Development Carbon Fund (CDCF), and IFC facilities. During periods of severe carbon market volatility, I managed the friction between private investors seeking contractual termination and sovereign institutions demanding social value preservation. I partnered with the Middle Office to develop the quantitative risk frameworks required to hedge these portfolios, and subsequently co-authored the technical sustainability criteria for an inaugural €2.5bn Green Bond.

04

Commercial Circularity
& Taxonomy Alignment

Context: €1.7bn Global Industrial Wholesaler

I authored an "Integrated Certification and Taxonomy Strategy" that mapped internal remanufacturing operations directly against the EU Taxonomy. Utilizing methodologies including UL 3600, ISO 59040, and Product Carbon Footprints (PCF), I led a brand identity project that converted technical circular economy data into a defensible B2B commercial narrative. I executed A/B testing to validate client appetite for green products, successfully equipping commercial teams to win competitive tenders while systematically mitigating greenwashing exposure.

Multi-Jurisdictional Execution

I have held mandates or been deployed to field operations across Western Europe, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, North Africa, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania. I have managed multicultural teams distributed across multiple countries and time zones — in corporate environments, multilateral institutions, and conflict-prone field settings.

Engagement

Open to senior executive mandates, advisory roles, board positions, and strategic partnerships across industrial decarbonization, ESG governance, sustainable finance, and non-technical risk.

Available to discuss trends and the future of the Sustainability practice.
